First Annual Thomas Dunn Memorial Hockey Tournament

In the summer of 2018, 14-year-old Thomas Dunn was taken too soon by a tragic accident. Since then, his family, friends and community have kept his legacy alive by promoting the kindness that made Thomas so special.

Thomas was a caring, kind teenager who stood up for others. He actively spoke up against bullying and was always offering help to those who needed it the most. He was a fan of the “underdog” in life. He also had a love for hockey and was a well-known player in his area. His passing had a big impact on the hockey community, not just in his small town but across the country and beyond.

In 2019, a successful bid was made by the Tom Donovan Arena (Renous, NB), to become the winner of 2019 Kraft Hockeyville “In Memory of Thomas Dunn”.  It brought in the largest number of votes ever for a Kraft Hockeyville win with almost 1 million votes. It’s clear that Thomas’ story of compassion resonated with so many people.

This year from December 17 – 19, 2021 the 1st Annual Thomas Dunn Memorial Hockey Tournament will be held at the new arena. The goal of the tournament is for people to play hockey, have fun and raise money for the Thomas Dunn memorial Bursary. This bursary is given out annually to students who might not be the strongest academically but who have exhibited kindness and caring for others throughout the school year.

New Brunswick Credit Unions are honoured to be the PLATINUM sponsor for the 1st Annual Thomas Dunn Memorial Hockey Tournament.
