General Manager’s Message

Margery Nichol, General Manager

December 2017

Here we are into the beginning of another New Year. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas. It is true that the older I get the faster the time seems to go. As some of you may be aware, I had a recent health scare and this has shown me how important it is to take the time to appreciate all that I have been so fortunate to have in my life. A good job, great friends and a wonderful family are just the tip of the iceberg. Please take a moment to appreciate all that you have.
Many of us make resolutions at this time of year and improving your financial picture can be one of them. Our staff has an abundance of knowledge and experience that can help you reach your financial goals. The regional credit union website honestmoney.ca also has some great advice and tips to help you, as well as stories from real people who have been successful in attaining their goals.
One of the products we offer to help you with your savings is the Tax Free Savings Account. This account is a great place to have your money grow and you won’t pay any tax on the on the interest you earn. This is a registered account and there are restrictions regarding how much can be deposited each year. Chris, our account specialist can assist you in opening one of these accounts.
Our Greener Home Loan product will continue to be available in 2018. If you are looking to make some improvements to increase the energy efficiency of your home contact either of our Lending Officers, Shawnalynn or Jill, and they would be pleased to meet with you. The rate on these types of loans is Prime plus one percent for a term of 36 months. Many of our members have taken advantage of this great rate to purchase heat pumps, new windows and energy efficient appliances.
Finally, I want to remind everyone that the RRSP deadline for deposits for 2017 is March 1, 2018. This is a great way to help reduce the taxes you have to pay on earned income. You can check your notices of assessment to see what room you have available to make contributions or contact Canada Revenue Agency and they can give you this information.

Cooperatively,

Margery Nichol, General Manager
