The following defines who can become a Member-Owner at NBTA Credit Union.  If you have questions about this document, please call our office at 506-452-1724.

For the purposes of interpretation of membership in our Articles of Continuance, the following definition will apply:

    Immediate family shall include:

  • spouse (including widows and widowers) *
  • children (including step-children)
  • parents (including step-parents)
  • grandparents
  • grandchildren
  • in-laws (parents, brothers, sisters)
  • brothers (including step-brothers)
  • sisters (including step-sisters)
  • Provided they comply with the conditions of membership as in the Articles of Continuance as follows:

  • NBTA Members
  • NBTA Associate Members
  • NBTA Staff
  • NBTA Credit Union Staff
  • NBTF Staff
  • NBTF Group Insurance Staff
  • New Brunswick Teachers' Association
  • New Brunswick Teachers' Federation
  • New Brunswick Teachers' Federation Group Insurance
  • The Department of Education and its employees
  • New Brunswick School Trustees' Association
  • N. B. Society of Retired Teachers
  • University and College employees
  • Retired members of any of the aforementioned groups
  • The immediate family of any of the aforementioned members
  • Corporations partially owned by members of any of the aforementioned groups
  • Partnerships where one of the partners is a member of the credit union
  • Active membership may also be granted to the employees only of the NBTF office of Johnson Insurance Limited.
  • Employees of Educational Learning and Training Centres
  • Student enrolled in Faculty of Education in any accredited university


    * spouse shall mean:

    • A husband or a wife, who is married through an ecclesiastical or civil ceremony, or
    • An individual of the opposite sex who has been residing with the member for a period of not less than one year and who has been publicly recognized as the husband or wife of the member, or
    • An individual of the same sex who has been residing with the member for a period of not less than one year in a spousal relationship, or
    • An individual who was pre-deceased by the member.
