Summer has officially arrived but so have endless days of rain. It seems we go from one extreme to another. On the positive side, we needed rain to put out the forest fires, grow our gardens and clean the air. I’m sure we’ll get to see the sun at some point.

By now, you should have our latest security features in place, namely, 2 Factor Authentication and Strong Personal Access Code. Although some members needed a little help getting set up, we are happy to have these features in place. Cybercrime has increased, and we are doing everything we can to ensure your accounts are protected. These features also help to keep our insurance costs affordable. As cyber-crime evolves our safeguards will evolve as well. Change is constant.

Another change is the increase to prime rate. There has been another 0.25% increase to the prime rate in June and economists are predicting a further increase in July. We understand many of our members are feeling the pinch as the cost of food, gas and just about everything else has gone up. We have had a lot of discussions about how we can support our members during this environment of rising rates.

We have decided to increase the interest rate we pay on your Member Life Savings Accounts, and for our members who currently have Chequing Lines of Credit and/or Home Equity Lines of Credit, we are going to leave the rate of interest as is for now.

NBTA Credit Union is having a good year and that allows us to do this. We reserve the right to increase rates, if necessary, but it is our intention to leave them as is for as long as possible. By doing so, we help both the savers and the borrowers. This is why I love working at NBTA Credit Union. The Board of Directors is member-focused, and all decisions are made with you in mind. We don’t have to ask anyone’s permission as we are the decision makers.
